Getting started

Yes, I too am one of those who thought that I was one in a trillion with a thought process that was not natural. So I meandered here and there till reality dawned on me that I was indeed normal and definitely not one in a trillion. Then I came across the book that any one in a democracy would swear by and I was amazed to see that I was indeed a criminal because what I consider as normal and natural is considered a crime in that book. But then I did realize that this was a legacy we carried from the British, who in turn were influenced by their own religious inclinations. I am pretty sure, if we were to write our own constitution without any influence, the authors would not care about such things since we just so new as a democracy and because discussing sex in India is still a taboo. But we as people seldom shed bad things so we are stuck with this law for the time being.

Being gay in India has many angles to it.. I will list out a few in this post

The money factor:
Like everywhere and for any situation I have found this as a standard phenomenon:
If you are very rich or very poor, laws/morality/societal viewpoints seldom apply to you.
Being rich you can buy/coerce the law. Being poor you do not care about it and the law does not bother itself by caring for you. So this brings the people in the middle, really in the middle. But still, you will not find gays being jailed in India for being gays. That because the law is busy with other stuff. Plus a gullible few get extorted. So from a purely legal perspective, nobody bothers about the said law.

The society factor:
We are an emotional lot. A lot of us also have a lot of interference from relatives and neighbors in our lives. Marriages may be made in heaven but we make sure that they do happen even if they are not. We are also hypocrites. I know it as I see it all the time. So being gay is always passed off as a phase and something that marriage can resolve/cure. I also see a lot of us "happily" married with the opposite sex and procreate!
